Current Students

Francesca Arcilesi works as assistant to the director at the Jim Kempner Gallery in Chelsea. She is also an intern in the education department at the Brooklyn Museum.

Michelle Bennett teaches Bookmaking and Ceramics at Bank Street School, NYC.

Anna Cannon is an intern at the SpecFin Gallery in Soho. The gallery specializes in Russian art, particularly the "Sterligovites", followers of the Russian painter Vladimir Vasilevich Sterligov. Sterligov was a student of Kasimir Malevich and Anna plans to write her thesis on a topic related to the artists whose works she'll assist in handling during her internship.

Lucia Carbajal's fall internship at the Drawing Center has come to an end. She is now an intern in the education department at the New York Historical Society, where she works with Mary Ann Furman, School Programs Associate, and also an MA candidate in the museum studies program at City College.

Gonzalo Casals started Queens Media Arts Development (QMAD) and has been working as its director since September 2005. The non-profit organization is devoted to promote Queensbased artists in the five boroughs and to organizing cultural events for the community in Queens. QMAD's flagship project was a one-day program hosted in the auditorium at the Elmhurst Central Hospital in Queens in observance of the World's Aids Day. Students from CCNY showed new media work in conjunction with a screening of two feature films on AIDS.(see www.qmad.org). Gonzalo is also the program manager of CINEMAROSA, a queer film series hosted at the Queens Museum of Art. (see www.cinemarosa.org). In his "spare time," he works as an intern at the New York City Museum Educators Roundtable (NYCMER) where he recently assisted in organizing a panel on new web-based tools for museum education. He is also one of the co-chairs of NYCMER's Annual Conference Committee in May 2006. Last year Gonzalo was one of the initiating figures behind Aerating the Atrium, a collaborative project involving MA and MFA students from Creative Writing and the Art Department at CCNY. This summer Gonzalo will be coordinating summer camps and family programs for the Foundation of Architecture. Gonzalo also works full-time as an architect and is the designer of this newsletter. Deirdre Conneely is an intern at the Museum of Modern Art, drawing department and serves on the student advisory board at the Brooklyn Museum of Art.

Mary Ann Furman continues to work in the education department at the New York Historical Society as the School Program Assistant. She recently created the Audubon Aviary Program for elementary, middle, and high school students and is now training new educators.

Angela Garcia has been working at the Eduardo Leon Jimenes Cultural Center in the Dominican Republic as Manager of Cultural Services, supervising four departments: curatorial, education, library, and collections. This past year she has organized nine exhibitions, structured the education department and managed the permanent collection of the Media Library, and organized traveling exhibitions. She was recently at City College (24 April) awarding the 21st edition of the Eduardo Leon Jimenes Art Contest. Angela has just agreed to stay on at the Center for another year. The Foundation has offered her a grant to complete her MA thesis on contemporary Dominican art.

Alyssa Grasso is an intern at the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum where she is working on the artist's catalogue raisonne. She is also a Teaching Assistant with Prof. Annette Weintraub in the EDM program at City College, assisting BFA working with students on their writing skills. She will also be assisting with the installation of the Thesis Exhibition, advising students on presentation and participate in design critiques.

Geaninne Gutierrez-Guimaraes, assistant curator at MoMA, department of drawings, has recently published an article "The Drawings of Leon Ferrari: Manipulation of the Line", Friends of Contemporary Drawings Bulletin (Spring 2006), The Museum of Modern Art, pp: 6-7. She is currently assisting Prof. Anna Indych in organizing a graduate symposium for Latin American Art CUNY-wide. Geaninne is also the recipient of the Jack Rothenberg Award in Art History.

Shin Yamauchi is working as an editorial assistant for the Japanese-American cultural magazine Educated Community and finishing his thesis.

Kelly Pajek is Public Art Project Manager for the Arts Council of Forth Worth and Tarrant County in Texas. Kelly is currently on leave from the program.

Marney Pelletier is finishing her internship in the curatorial department at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum where she worked on the much acclaimed David Smith retrospective.

Minjung (Minny) Lee works as an intern at the International Center for Photography (ICP).

Victoria Hofmo is organizing the annual Viking Fest for the Scandinavian East Coast Museum on 20 May 2006. The event will take place in Owl's Head/Bliss Park at 68th Street and Colonial Road in Bay Ridge. On view will be The Norsemen "A Replica Viking Ship" and three groups re-enacting Viking sword fighting, weaving, and reading of runes. Scandinavian folk dance, food, and crafts will be part of the program. Victoria will also lead a walking tour of Norwegian New York in Sunset Park on Saturday June 10, 2006. Meet her outside the N train Eight Avenue Station at 11:00 am. Cost $15. For reservations, please call Victoria at 718 748 5950. Bring your Viking helmet if you like - no horns please (Victoria told me they are historically incorrect!)

Jason Holton is an intern at the New Museum in the registrar's department. He has recently been assisting with the 2006 Gala Auction, along with registrarial duties: packing, shipping, photographing and condition reporting.

Sarah Jorgensen is an intern in the education department at the Brooklyn Museum of Art.

Heejung Kim is the stage director for Mozart's "Magic Flute" to be performed in Korean at the Gunkook University in Seoul, Korea in May 2006. She teaches studio arts at New Jersey University and is also on the Board of Directors of the Asian American Women Artists Alliance.

Lin Ma (aka Sophia), an undergraduate honors college student, is graduating this May. She has been admitted to the Smith College art history and museum studies summer program and received a scholarship for her tuition. Sophia is also president of The Art History Club at City College which sponsored a lecture in March 2006 by Dr. Anna Chave, author of several books and field-defining articles on Minimalism. Subsequent to the lecture the Club organized a very successful student excursion to DIA Beacon.

Sarah Roberts is an intern in the registrar/collections care department at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. She assists in managing the museum's collection and exhibition database.
